Who am I?

My name is Raquel Polo Elvira and I am a psychiatrist. Ever since I started studying medicine, I knew I wanted to focus on this specialty because I found it to be the most beautiful and humanistic, allowing for a close doctor-patient relationship that is rare in other specialties.

My goal is to create a safe and comfortable space that allows patients to come to their appointments without fear of being judged. I will work to overcome the problems that motivate the visit to the clinic and accompany my patients throughout the process.

My approach combines psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions, as I believe that in most cases a combined approach offers the best results. Another important point for me is to respect the patient’s preferences, respect the pace of their recovery, and involve them as much as possible in decisions about medication, since no one knows their body better than the patient themselves.

Professional experience

I currently work at Dr. Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. However, I have worked in different places throughout my professional career, always seeking to learn different ways of approaching mental illness. This has allowed me to be part of different specific units, gaining a closer understanding of child and adolescent psychopathology, the approach to eating disorder treatments, and the treatment and rehabilitation of psychotic disorders. Below is a list of the centers where I have carried out my professional activity to date:

  • San Juan University Hospital in Alicante
  • Alicante General Hospital
  • University Hospital of Zürich

  • Doble especialidad acreditada:
